Larry Alan Smith: Piano Trio No. 3 (2022)

This one-movement work was commissioned by the Camerata Musicale Sulmonese in Sulmona, Italy to celebrate the organization’s 70th anniversary season. It was written for the Galan Trio and premiered in January 2023. The number 70 plays an important role in the structure of the piece . . . especially in the first section where the insistent 70-beat patterns pay tribute to the Camerata’s long and distinguished history. A lyrical, sensual second section allows each of the performers to “sing” over a rich harmonic progression, and the work concludes with a spirited giga.
