Euterpean Serenade (1977) for violin and piano

Larry Alan Smith: Euterpean Serenade (1977) for violin and piano
Peter Oundjian, violin
Larry Alan Smith, piano

This work is from a set of chamber music pieces I am writing to honor the nine muses of Greek mythology. Three down (Euterpe, Terpsichore, and Polyhymnia) . . . six to go (Calliope, Clio, Erato, Melpomeni, Thalia, and Urania). Commissioned by violinist Hanwon Choi for her Carnegie Recital Hall debut in April of 1976, it honors Euterpe, the muse of music and lyric poetry.

Peter Oundjian is my brother-in-law and the person to whom this work is dedicated. This performance was recorded live in Canton, Ohio on June 18, 1981.

Euterpean Serenade is published by the Theodore Presser Company. Click here to purchase the music.
